I'm not technical, and I replaced a $168-a-year app with one I built for free. Inside: how I did it, and a simple test for spotting the tools you could do the same to.
Cool stuff. Would love to see your finished version. My friend built this 4 months ago for his meetings and not only does it transcribe it gives him feedback during the meeting
I started telling Claude (in the browser chat) about the features of a Google Chrome extension I wanted to create to save files quickly with a specific naming convention, and Claude started building it. The extension works great. I've moved on to using VS Code with Claude Code, and I like that process much better.
I bet you could use a different audio format to reduce file size, MP3, OGG... I'm gonna tinker with making a Windows version. I think a tab on the interface to browse recent recordings would be awesome, but keep the open folder button, that's great... Playback within the app would be pretty sweet too.

Very cool! Has your friend shared their version anywhere?
This is what it currently looks like: https://app.screencast.com/m8s5Hz21WoOiM
Not a lot of bells and whistles. Still working out kinks.
That's really cool about the feedback... that's the next step for me
Love it! I used this same approach to write my own Google Chrome extension using Claude.
Tell me more!

This is awesome. Perhaps I will build a chrome extension next!
I opened the post to see how long you were on the toilet for - jokes aside this is awesome. So cool what is possible
haha
I had a feeling that subject line would win
spoiler: I didn't actually clone the app from the toilet... but I COULD HAVE...
There is always next time! 🤣
I’ll need to re-record another gif 😬
🤣🤣🤣
